If you
don't fancy self catering every day -
or at all - there are many good restaurants
at Arc 2000, most in the same building
as the apartment itself, so you don't
need to go out very far to get your meals
or order your take-away pizza or roast
chicken! There are also some very pleasant
mountain restaurants out on the slopes.
There is a skating
rink, a night club, a cinema, a disco,
bars, boutiques, a cash dispenser, Doctors'
and Physiotherapists' surgeries, a health
suite, hire shops, a supermarket, a bakery,
a launderette, underground and open air
car parking (the resort is traffic-free)
and all the things you expect to find
on a skiing holiday - especially SNOW!
Arc 2000 has a superb snow record even
during seasons when many other resorts
were desperately short. Similar facilities
are to be found at the other two complexes,
together with the local radio station's
studio which broadcasts bulletins in English
on events and activities as well as piste
conditions and snow reports on 93.4 F.M.
at 9a.m. and 6p.m. (there is a radio in
the apartment).
The
Resort
Les
Arcscomprises 4 main purpose built complexes:
one at 1,600 metres, another at 1,800 metres,
the third at 1,950 metres and the highest
(and we think the best ) at 2,000
metres - the location of our apartment
in Residence Aiguille Rouge. There is a
regular bus service between all these villages
during the day and evening and a funicular
connects Arc 1600 to the attractive Savoyard
town of Bourg St Maurice; the lift pass
covers both these services.

Accommodation...
The
apartment - which sleeps 4 very comfortably and 5 at a pinch - is ideally situated
at the foot of the Aiguille Rouge runs (skiing
from 3226 metres) and the South facing balcony
affords superb views of the nearby slopes including
the Olympic "Flying
Kilometre" piste on which the World record
of more than 150 m.p.h. was recently established.
You'll have a chance to give it a try if you
wish!
Fully carpeted, the
apartment is equipped with an electric hob and
a combination microwave oven, a fridge and a dishwasher.
There’s a Television set and video player
as well as a CD/Radio/Cassette player so don't
forget to take a couple of your favourite videos
and some music! There’s also a Playstation
I with a few games. We’ve installed analogue
satellite television equipment, but there isn’t
a great deal being broadcast on analogue any more.
You can watch some strange German Channels or,
with luck, listen to the available radio channels
- but if this isn’t working we’ll
remove the equipment.
Duvets and bed linen are provided
(there are some blankets for those that prefer):
the only extra items you will need to take with
you are your towels.
Sleeping accommodation consists
of a divan bed, with a pull-out bed underneath
and a foldaway "bunk" bed above, in
an alcove sleeping area near the entrance. Two
further divan beds are situated in the lounge
area. These two sleeping areas are designed to
be "privatised" by using intervening
wardrobe doors; a system that works very well.
There is, of course, a full
sized bath with a shower and you will find lots
of hanging and storage space in cupboards, shelves
and wardrobes in the apartment and in a separate
storage/ski locker just outside the front door.
